Our team to face Lyon – what’s yours?

by Matthew Harris on February 14, 2013

Head coach Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Jermain Defoe and Tom Huddlestone will stay on the sidelines for this match and they join long term injury victims Sandro and Younes Kaboul.

“Defoe is going to be out, further to our long-term injuries with Younes and Sandro,” AVB said.

“Tom Huddlestone is going to be out of the game due to some minor pain in the knee. We hope to have most of the players available and free for selection.”

Andre also confirmed that Brad Friedel will start in goal but how many other first team regulars will join Hugo Lloris on the bench?

The back four may stay the same but Jan Vertonghen and Benoit Assou-Ekotto could step back in after missing out at the weekend.

In midfield, if anyone is to be rested it could be the central pairing of Scott Parker and Moussa Dembele but with no league game this weekend, will AVB keep things as they are?

Emmanuel Adebayor may now start up front but who will slot in behind him?

Despite the lack of a league fixture in three days’ time we think Andre will keep his usual mix of regulars and fringe players. Here’s how we think we will line up but what’s your view?

If we lose tonight it will be because of freidel.
Great keeper but our highline and his style equals trouble.

Surely Holtby and Parker will start?
I think resting Dembele might be smart, though.

LOL – What you been smoking? Livermore and Sigs have never lined up together in CM. Holtby behind Ade would be nice to see, potentially our best 2.

And mine on top of that.
Having heard AVB’s comments about how Lyon is a CL side, further confirms that it will be a very strong starting eleven. No resting, no experiments just top class Spurs footballers.
Yes please……………

Surely you’re barking up wrong tree – isn’t AVB playing strongest possible team? Hence Scottie and Demb start…

Starting XI: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, BAE; Dembele, Sigurdsson; Lennon, Holtby, Bale; Adebayor.

Subs: Lloris; Naughton, Caulker; Parker, Sigurdsson, Huddlestone; Dempsey.

With the experience that William Gallas has, really wouldn’t be too surprised to see him in defence. Also, I’ve been saying for months that Sigurdsson has to be given a start now and then, he still hasn’t had a real chance. He sit on the bench, comes on for five minutes, then doesn’t make an appearance for another three weeks. Waste.
