Emmanuel Adebayor’s performances in a Spurs shirt have come under great scrutiny this season and there is even talk that the club will look to sell the Togolese in the summer after a disappointing campaign. It’s certainly been a struggle for Ade with just three goals from twenty games and while many of those appearances have been as a substitute, the stats don’t make for good reading.

Tottenham’s head coach Andre Villas-Boas has been speaking about the striker and despite a frustrating campaign, the player clearly has his boss’s backing.

“He can still be the player we saw last season,” said AVB.

“We’re trying to unlock the best out of the player. Last year shows as an example for what we’re trying to get out of him.

“Strikers live off goals and we’re doing everything we can to try and unlock his full potential.”

AVB talked at length about the role that he and the club needed to play in order to get the best from the player. One thing that Emmanuel hasn’t been able to enjoy is an extended role as the lone striker but with Jermain Defoe’s injury, he is now set for a run in that position.

Could this be the simple key to Ade rediscovering his form?

  1. He needs to get in the box more, all 17 of his goals in the Premier League last season came from inside the area, as did 87% of his shots. Against Lyon he only received 1 pass in the box and shanked the shot wide.

  2. He needs to be in the box more and up his work rate, the rest of the team need to be looking to play him in through the channels between defenders

  3. When a strikers off form they tend to shy away from GOAL scoring positions. This is what i believe Ady is doing hes not stopped working for the team but his hunger for goals has been taken up by other players and most of his work is done in the middle or on the flanks.I feel Ady is missing a fully fit Hudds or Modric who ran or in Hudds case passed the ball in advance areas. Now Dembele runs frm the back at speed gets just over halfway and stops all the chasing defenders flood the box and Ady and Defoe are facing blanket defending. This has got worse with Sandro injury and Huddlestone not yet in my mind back to 100 percent fit is ankle still looks weak when he passes tackles or shoots. So if we want the best out of Ady we need quick passes from the back to the front not slow build up like now with Parker and Dembele losing the ball when they attempt to find forward players. Dembele is not a play maker or Parker. The only time Dembele played a proper role was before his hip injury and Huddlestone stayed back in front of back four and Dembele played further up field where his runs did more damage Huddlestone could pick him out 15 20 yards further up field just like he did when he scored against Lyon. What happens now Parker runs and then loses the ball searching for a forward player i feel we need these players all to get fit and in form to stay in the top four Hudds Defoe Kaboul Siggy Dempsey Ady if not it will be hard Bale cant do it all unless he does R van Persie did last season for Arsenal and others chip in.
