It’s been a while since the name of Diego Capel has appeared in the transfer rumour columns but the 25 year old Sporting Lisbon winger looks set to leave the Portuguese club in the summer.
Sporting are thought to be desperate to reduce an uncomfortably high wage bill at the club and as one of the high earners, Capel has been earmarked for sale.
Rumours connecting the player to Tottenham go back to Juande Ramos’ time in charge but while he joined Sporting in 2011, the side’s desperation to see him leave could mean that the transfer fee is as little at £5 million.
Capel plays on the left wing so it’s easy in some ways to see why this link has resurfaced today. However, his goals to game ratio is poor, (around one in ten) compared with the man he is tipped to replace.
At £5m it may be worth a punt for the club but it’s hard to see where Diego Capel fits into the set up.
