After a two week break from Premiership action, Spurs now find themselves in the expected fifth Premiership position after Arsenal’s late win over Norwich on Saturday. Champions League qualification is now out of our hands and those who would like to see us back in the Europa League will be looking nervously at Everton who sit just three points behind us.

Every game is huge between now and the end of the campaign and that’s a fact acknowledged by our Belgian central defender Jan Vertonghen.

“We have to stay together and to go for that top four place in the Premier League,” said Jan on the club’s official website.

“We have a rest, we clear our heads and we come back against Manchester City.”

Jan also feels that the return of some key players will help our cause when we face the FA Cup finalists on Sunday.

“A lot of players could be coming back, important players and we only have big games now, City, Chelsea, all cup finals. We go for the highest place possible,” he added.

Those key players could include Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Younes Kaboul but will the extended break work in our favour, as it did before the Swansea match or is the campaign in freefall?

  1. If Bale and Lennon are fit for the game, then I can see us grabbing the 3 points. I’m expecting the break to have refocused the players totally and am hoping that the Goons going above us will have fired the players up even more. After all, for most of the side it’s deja vu from last season, so a chance to totally make up for that. It’s probably the perfect game for us to get going again really, with things to avenge like last season’s home hammering and Adebayor might even run about a bit against his old side!!

With the exception of Utd at home, I expect the Goons to win pretty much every game now (they’ll no doubt fluke a goal here and there from non-corners or poor ref decisions) so in my mind it’s between us and Chelsea for that 4th spot. Won’t be surprised if our game v Chelsea’s arranged for Tues 7th or Weds 8th May, as the only other date they could get after that is the last week of the season, which is when the EL Final takes place!! In a nutshell, it means that we’ll either face them 3 days after they’ve been to Old Trafford or a few days before the last Sunday of the season. Either way, they will be in the midst of 3 games in 7 days, so positive for us. I’m more worried about the games at Wigan and Stoke, especially if they’re fighting for survival…..
