Rumours that Spurs have been looking at a deal to sign Blackpool’s Tom Ince have persisted for a while now but they have certainly gathered more momentum in the last few days. Several reports are now claiming that the England under 21 International is White Hart Lane bound and that the club are set to make Ince their first signing of the summer as soon as it’s possible to do so.

At 21, the player looks a prospect and has certainly blossomed at Blackpool this season, having scored 18 goals and adding 14 assists in his 43 games to date. He is versatile too and despite being an essentially left footed player, he is comfortable on either flank.

So Ince could provide valuable cover for Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon next season but he may not be first choice and that could scupper a possible move. In addition, if we’re signing a player as cover then he needs to be better than what we already have. Some would say that Andros Townsend could do that job?

  1. Spurs should go for Christian Eriksen.

    Spurs already have too many average players on their books like Livermore, Naughton, Rose, Sigurdsson and Dempsey.

  2. I’m not entirely convinced that Andros would rack up those assist/goal stats if he spent a season on loan in the championship.
    While we have to acknowledge Inces technique and potential, scoring goals in the championship doesn’t always translate to premier league goals (remember Michael brown?). Personally I’d like to see them both at spurs next season. We can’t deny that we could’ve used a couple of extra wingers this year (assuming that’s where AVB wants him to play).

  3. Eriksen is quality but I hear Chelsea and City are looking at him too. If we miss top 4, Eriksen won’t come. He has already said that he wants to play in the champions league.

  4. in my humble opinion letting townsend go out on loan could be the difference in us not finishing in the top 4. sounds bizarre, but one thing we’ve lacked during this predictable slump is pace and width. With lennon injured we then had no-one to fill the void. I would keep him and look at ince as well (by doing this get rid of dempsey, who despite scoring the odd goal does very little else and certainly in out of depth in wide positions. We need wide player, Eriksen play more centrally doesn’t he?

I believe that this move might infer the move to AVB’s proffered formation with a more natural setup, shifting bale to a more central/free-role in behind the striker (or as a striker) with ince out left providing the pace, width and attacking intent we are unable to get from gylfi or clint on the left. Andros is a natural on the right side so he is incumbent to provide cover for lennon and honestly going forward he provides a greater level of strength to balance with pace than lennon does (although lennon is by far the more polished product with greater technique). In my eyes though Andros is hungry and goes that extra mile to chase down balls and dig in on the defensive side so even if he cant displace Lennon on the right he will be excellent cover. If you’ve watched Andros at QPR he was miles better than many of his more lauded additions like remy, bosingwa, and was stretching defenses single handed.

  7. I beleive that Azza’s best position is lw, therefore i propose we sign a lb to overlap, someone like Baines cos AVB doesnt really like BAE, or even Rose who is great defensively. With Azza at lw, Bale at second striker, we need a rw, think we need a creative left legged type player, thought of Salah and Ben Arfa as for striker, honestly think we need Benteke but i prefer damiao or soldado
