While the rumour mill grinds on in terms on linking Gareth Bale with a move away from Spurs, a handful of stories line up potential replacements. One of those names belongs to Porto winger Christian Atsu who has previously worked under Andre Villas-Boas but despite the paper talk his bare stats don’t seem all that appealing.

The player himself has already hinted that he would like to make the move into English football.

“I have one more year contract with FC Porto but as a child I always dream to play at the highest level especially in England,” Atsu said earlier this week.

“I love to play there so when I have the opportunity to play in England for sure I would like to move.”

The Ghanaian International is just 21 and still has time to develop but last season in Portugal he produced just one goal and four assists in 28 appearances. Atsu’s words can seem like a ‘come and get me’ statement to the Premiership but for Spurs at least they may be ignored.

  1. the thing is hes a decent player but hes a bit like aaron lennon. very hit and miss and i dont kow if hed get enough games to keep his form up.

  2. If we switch to 4-3-3 I don’t see much need for out and out wingers, especially with Lennon and Townsend in the squad. If AVB sees a future for Andros he’s got the potential to be more versatile too.

So we need a creative play-maker to replace Modric. Carrol can serve as his understudy.

Sandro and Dembele could be the legs in midfield, backed up by Holtby and some of the kids who did so well with the U21s this year.

Lastly we need a target man and a quality forward. My ideal would be…
    Lloris

    Walker/Smith Kaboul Vertonghen Rose

    Sandro Pjanic Dembele

    Bale ????
    Soldado

It means an outlay of 40-50 mill, which is a lot but we could make 20mill through sales (BAE, Parker, Hudd, Livermore, Dempsey, Defoe or Ade) and there’s plenty of quality left over in the squad (Daws, Caulks, Fryers, Carrol, Holtby, Sig, Lennon).

  3. Of course it will go on deaf ears! Levy is an idiot who does all his incompetent transfers in summer. I am sick of him getting a pass because from horrible and non-signings because he got Van Der Vaart for cheap! Tottenham cruises the bargain basement and fall 3 points short every year because of it.
I’m done with Tottenham and their cheap Billionaire owner and so should Bale. As soon as Bale leaves that will be the team I follow. The sooner the better. To subject myself to being let down every year without silverware or Champions league football? Not for me.

    • You’re obviously NOT a Spurs fan then. I’ve had this since the double years and yes, it IS frustrating, but Spurs just don’t have the revenue to go out and spend on the type of players we would all like to see at the Lane. If you’re going to stop supporting just because the latest superstar leaves, bugger off and support one of the Mancs teams or Chelsea, because they have zillionaire backers who are willing to spend money on their playthings. You can watch them try to BUY a trophy next year. This is a site for REAL Spurs supporters, who even supported them when we got relegated.

    • Daniel Levy has done shrewd pieces of Business. Not only did he get VDV but he was able to sign Lloris Vertongen, Sandro, Dembele…..Let us not forget Berbs, Modric and Bale. Those are some great signings if you ask me. He has let us down in bringing in strikers the last two season, although that’s not the sole reason we arent in Champions league. He cant be held responsible for every point we dropped. Hey but your leaving soon anyway enjoy your new favorite team whoever it maybe that year.
