With Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez set to leave the club this summer it was a little surprising that Spurs hadn’t been linked with a move for the German striker. All that changed last Friday however as the Metro seemed to kick off the rumours of a bid for the 27 year old.
But is it really likely? The stories that continued to emerge over the weekend claimed a £7m bid on behalf of Tottenham coupled with a wage offer of £70,000 per week. Contrast that with a report earlier in the week that suggested a £25m approach from Chelsea.
Gomez may be surplus to requirements at Bayern but he’s in his prime and would leave the Bundesliga Champions with an incredible record of 75 goals in 115 league appearances. He is four years younger than David Villa and really would be the club’s ‘biggest signing since Klinsmann’ but the figures just don’t seem to add up at the moment.
Alternatively, the club could look to make a more realistic bid for one of Europe’s hottest properties?
