Two games – two decades apart, here are some interesting highlights from previous clashes against Crystal Palace, who Spurs face on the opening day of the 2013-13 campaign.

The first, from 1970-71 features the Holy Trinity of Martin Chivers, Martin Peters and Alan Gilzean and you can also briefly spot Joe Kinnear making one of his 400+ (or was it 196?) appearances at right full back.

Looks like a comfortable 3-0 victory with second half goals from both Martins and a long range effort from Alan Mullery along with some comedy Palace defending for our second.

The second match doesn’t have quite such a happy ending and highlights our ability to drop goals against the lesser clubs, no matter what vintage Spurs side you happen to be watching. Hopefully Palace will play a far more entertaining game than in the early nineties when their defensive approach made them painful to watch. We still managed to let in two – including a header for the smallest man on the pitch before a rare Steve Sedgley goal rescued a point.
