It’s tempting just to ignore any stories that link Gareth Bale to Real Madrid right now but today has seen greater unity among the reports and they are starting to suggest that the La Liga side are looking elsewhere.

That’s an odd move considering that a frenzy was whipped up just 24 hours ago as the player himself stated that he missed playing Champions League football.

‘When you play in the Premier League, say you’re playing against a lower-end team, they set up to defend all the time, they set up to block you off. But when you play in the Champions League, all the other teams are used to winning every week, so it’s more of an open game, it’s more attacking, end-to-end,” Bale is quoted as saying.

‘No one’s used to defending, everyone’s used to attacking and trying to win games, so it’s just all against all.’

‘The music is a massive thing – Zadok the Priest When we first got into the Champions League, it’s one of the things that most of the lads were looking forward to, hearing it in the stadium. It’s little things like that which make it special.’

Our old friends at the Daily Mail were quick to see this as a hint that the player would leave this summer but the following words, which are part of a full article on Marca’s website claim otherwise.

“Real Madrid have decided to put the Gareth Bale signing on hold. After receiving yet another “no” from Tottenham Hotspur, Florentino Perez and his team have decided to call it a day and now see the signing of Bale this summer as impossible.

“Daniel Levy, the English club’s president, is not open to negotiation, and faced with such inflexibility, reaching any sort of agreement is not viable.”

The player’s agent Jonathan Barnett went on to claim that no bid had been entered as yet so heave we really heard the last of this – at least for another 12 months?
