Tottenham’s new kit for the 2013-14 campaign was launched on Monday afternoon but in the press conference that followed, all attention was on Gareth Bale as reporters looked for answers to the Real Madrid question.

Predictably, the player himself managed to avoid direct comment while insisting that he was looking forward to next season and to getting his current club back into the Champions League.

“I am hoping to improve from last season. Every season I want to keep improving and keep becoming a better player, I have more experience now,” Gareth told Sky Sports News.

“For me I need to keep working hard on the training pitch and on game days, and hopefully progress as a player and become even better.”

A couple of weeks ago Bale admitted that he missed the lure of the Champions League but for now he’s just targeting a return to the competition with Spurs.

“I think everyone at the club wants us to finish in the top four, the club wants to be in the top four, and we need to go one better this season and finish in the top four,” he added.

At the same time, Jermain Defoe underlined the need for the club to retain its top players but is this a clear enough indication that Gareth Bale will be at the Lane next season?

  1. I have been a Tottenham Hot Spur fan /supporter for 20 years and I want to see them get back to winning trophies like in the days of Gascoine, Linicker, Ardiliers, etc. I agree with Defoe, that we cant in 2013/14, but we need to get two hungry strikers. And with the dynamics of Gareth Bale, we can win the League title and/or the FA.
