It’s common for every newspaper and website to link Spurs with a host of players during any transfer window but it’s pretty rare for the Head Coach to come out and acknowledge interest in a specific name. However, that’s exactly what Andre Villas-Boas has done when questioned over the club’s pursuit of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

“Roberto is one of the players we have been following and his career speaks for itself. He’s a great striker,” AVB said.

“But there isn’t a deal being struck at the moment, it’s just interest and conversations.”

Andre went on to confirm that the club had other options and he acknowledged the need for new striking talent at the Lane.

“At the moment, he’s just one of the players we are interested in,” he added.

“It’s not a lie to anybody that we’ve been looking for a striker to strengthen our squad and to have more strength in depth.”

Soldado’s credentials have been scrutinised and he looks the part as far as our needs are concerned but will we overcome the issue with the fee? A bid of £18m has been suggested but Valencia are adamant that they won’t be held to ransom.

“I do not believe that any club will pay Soldado’s buy-out clause,” said coach Miroslav Djukic.

So the deal may be some way off but now that AVB has identified his man will the club go out and do all they can to get him?

  1. I certainly hope we sign someone! It would be another disappointing season if there is nothing resembling a striker up top for Spurs!
