Pre-season is pre-season but anyone looking for any positives ahead of the 2013-14 Premiership campaign will be struggling after Tottenham’s disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland. Heavy rain led to a difficult surface but while Spurs had chances to finish the game in the second period, defensive lapses let in the Black Cats who progress to Saturday’s final.
Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring on 25 minutes with a deflected effort before Tom Huddlestone gave the ball away in midfield to allow Cabral to equalise.
Our front two of Adebayor and Defoe went close around the hour mark with JD shooting straight at Mannone after Ade had forced a fine save from the former Arsenal stopper. At that point, Spurs looked the most likely to progress before a late goal from Wes Brown and a last minute effort from Karlsson sealed our 3-1 defeat.
Tottenham were without new signings Paulinho and Nacer Chadli while injury meant that Gareth Bale took no part in the match so once again, it’s hard to read too much into the scoreline. The loss means that we are likely to face South China in Saturday’s 3rd place play off.

Come off it, the pitch was worse than what you’d find at somewhere like Stevenage. Pre-season has hardly ever been a reflection of our season will go. Also The team didn’t include Loris, Bale, Kaboul, Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Chadili and if we add a new striker, it’s means that our likely starting front 6 weren’t even in the squad today.
I thought Fryers did well being thrown in at centre back, and I thought Siggy was the best attacking player. Also Dawson was great on a pitch that was a defenders nightmare. We need to work on defending them corners though.
I agree about other players to come back in but the pitch was the same for both teams.

Remember that our team at start will be completely different and this game is about trying to gain fitness, we were without holtby, sandro, kaboul, chadil, bale, paulinho, dembele and lloris. Most of these will start and we didn’t exactly set out to how we will start season in terms of formation. This was against Sunderlands best side who looked good.
Positives of match were Dawson, walker, sigurdson who gave their all.
Negatives – Lennon looks unfit, Danny rose needs to work on getting closer to his opponent and tackling early.
I think defensively we were troubled by the pitch because of our high line at the end of the day it’s preseason and rarely reflects on the competitive season.

Whatever you do do not give Sunderland any recognition.We had a team including 4 new arrivals a midfielder at left back and also at right back.Wes brown who hasnt had a game 18 months and we beat the almighty spurs 3-1.

Not really bothered about the game as only 3 will be first choice that started the game
