Unless you want to talk about Gareth Bale or the new sensation that is Tottenham Turfies, there is little else to discuss at the moment although the press are taking up some column space with a link to the Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo.
Even with that story you can’t move away from Bale with the Express even going so far as to say Real’s pursuit of the Welshman hinges on whether Tottenham can prize Vadillo away from his current club.
It’s said that the Spanish Under 20 international has a release clause of £17.3m and at 18, that’s pretty alarming and the player’s stats don’t go on to give too much encouragement. Vadillo became the second youngest to appear in a La Liga match when he made his debut at 16 in August 2011 but two months later he was sidelined for some considerable time with a torn cruciate ligament.
Overall, Vadillo has yet to score in 18 league appearances for Betis and while that isn’t his main job, does a lack of goals make him a non starter as a Bale replacement?
However, the player is highly thought of – not least by his current club.
“Vadillo has a great future in front of him, and we are very excited thinking about what he is going to bring to us during this coming season,” said Betis President Miguel Guillen.
“The club’s intention is that Vadillo shall stay at Betis. For us to allow our young prodigy to depart, there would have to be a very strong financial benefit for the club.”
Which could translate into holding Spurs to ransom after cleaning up on their star player. Hopefully, the need for a replacement won’t arise but Alvaro Vadillo may not be the man the club needs to fill any potential void.
