Tottenham’s new signing Etienne Capoue made an instant impact on his first team debut at the weekend and looks set to become something of a fans’ favourite for the coming season. The former Toulouse man was introduced as a second half substitute, in place of Mousa Dembele, and like the Belgian he proved highly effective at breaking up play and finding a white shirt.
The French international could have been playing in the red shirt of Cardiff on Saturday but as the player explains, Tottenham were very much his preferred choice.
“I decided I wanted to play in a very attractive league, and the Premier League is the best league in Europe,” Capoue told Mercato 365.
“I really wanted to go to England and Tottenham was an opportunity that I could not refuse.”
The midfielder / defender went on to state that Spurs’ desire to seal the deal persuaded him to choose North London over South Wales.
“They showed me they were very keen on the transfer and that they really wanted to have me on their team.”
“Cardiff would not have been a step up in my career,” he concluded. “Tottenham allowed me to make that leap, Cardiff did not.”
The 25 year olds’ versatility could make him an important member of the squad this season but did his performance at Selhurst Park on Sunday suggest he deserves more than a start from the bench next weekend?
