Spurs all but sealed their place in the Group stages of the Europa League but the star of last night’s 5-0 victory was Andros Townsend who had been brought in for Nacer Chadli on the left. Andros opened the scoring with a long range effort on 12 minutes before assisting with the second for Paulinho and laying on the third for Roberto Soldado in what proved to be a comfortable 90 minutes.

Danny Rose and Soldado with his second, completed the scoring but the attention fell on Andros for his Man of the Match display.

“Every time I get a chance I have to continue to be affective in matches, to score goals and make assists,” the winger said after the game.

“Hopefully if I get another opportunity I’ll do the same.”

When Tbilisi came out of the hat it looked a tricky tie for us but the home side were pretty poor over the 90 minutes. Having said that, Andros Townsend was exceptional and while he may be no Gareth Bale, a starting slot against Swansea on Sunday is the least he deserves.

  1. If that performance from Townsend had been produced by Bale the papers would have added £5m more to the price. The goal was superb and the two crosses for the goals should be played on a loop to Lennon until he learns to look up before crossing instead of afterwards. Our biggest mistake last year was letting townsend go to qpr at xmas when we were then desperate for a winger after lennons injury. Good luck to Townsend for the season. At Spurs not on loan.
