If you believe many of the transfer rumours to come from the press since deadline day then Spurs will have narrowly missed out on a number of striking targets and are set to re-enter the market in January. Meanwhile, reports of interest in free agent Ciprian Marica could bring another new face to the Lane before 2013 is out.
The 27 year old Romanian striker is free to move immediately, as he left Schalke 04 this summer and despite not having a club, he still makes the full national side and was on target for his country in Friday’s 3-0 World Cup qualifier win over Hungary.
Looking at his stats isn’t going to get anyone excited – Marica left Schalke with a record of five goals from 34 league games but for the most part, he is played out on the wing or as a second striker at club level.
Perhaps a more telling statistic is a return of 22 goals in 63 full Romanian internationals where he tends to be the main striker but is there really any truth in this or is the fact that Marica is a free agent sparking an idle rumour?
Huh, I thought this was going to be about a left-back. We don’t need another attacking player, if we did bring this guy in he would never, ever play. Unless AVB has decided to pretend Ade doesn’t exist, there isn’t a place for this player in our squad.
Well actually we do have space in the squad, one of the many great things to happen this summer was we really did a great job of trimming the fat and clearing room for players. Striking a really healthy balance between home-grown, foreign and those players 21 and under. If we infact did want him we could do a short term deal. A bit like what City are contemplating with Gallas. But it doesn’t seem worth it.
