There is no official word from the club as yet but head coach Andre Villas-Boas faces up to the prospect of losing several players to injury ahead of tonight’s game. AVB has already complained about the schedule issues that this game has caused and it’s no wonder he’s likely to leave deputy Steffen Freund in the technical area this evening.

Etienne Capoue, Danny Rose, Nacer Chadli, Aaron Lennon, Younes Kaboul and Jermain Defoe may all miss out so who’s left?

Hugo Lloris will presumably be rested so will it be Brad Friedel or will we be treated to a rare sighting of Heurelho Gomes in a Tottenham shirt?

Andre is unlikely to risk any of the players named above but in defence, Vlad Chiriches may come in for his debut unless the coach wants to save him for weekend action against Chelsea. On the left, much as we’d rather not see left footed Kyle Naughton there, he’s likely to continue.

From the midfield onwards, Sandro, Erik Lamela and Lewis Holtby could all feature while Harry Kane may lead the line. Other options include Jon Obika and Shaq Coulthirst while Simon Dawkins, who was on loan at Villa last season could also get a start.

It’s almost impossible to predict: Will AVB sacrifice the game with an academy side or will it be a mix of youth and experience? Here’s our punt but what’s your view?

  2. Same game again then guys.. Stick gomes in goal an a player that’s out on lone playing upfront in a formation spurs haven’t played all season.. That’ll get us hits lol. Pathetic!

  3. AVB said the players who played at Cardiff will not be involved so why do you have Walker, Dawson, Naughton and Sigurdsson in the team?

    The usual Matthew Harris stupidity.

    • If he said that then we are in trouble if you link the injured players like Defoe/Lennon/Chadli/Kaboul/Capoue/Rose defo being out….

If thats the case we have no options some players who played against Cardiff have to play tonight, its:

Friedel, Stewart, Chiriches, Fryers, NAUGHTON, Holtby, Sandro, Lamela, Kane, Coulthirst, Adebayor

  4. AVB won’t play 4-4-2 and I certainly wouldn’t play Gomes or Obika. I would only very reluctantly play Kane as the lone striker, as I don’t believe he is good enough, so I am definitely hoping Defoe is fit.

    Friedel,

    Walker, Chiriches, Dawson, Naughton,

    Lamela, Sandro, Paulinho/Dembele, Sigurdsson,

    Holtby,

    Defoe

  6. I didnt know the players you mentioned were injured

Holtby, Lamela, Chiriches, Fryers, Friedel, Naughton, Adebayor and Kane need to start

Now assuming Lennon, Chadli, Defoe, Kaboul, Capoue and Rose are defo out then we need to rest the injury prone likes of Dembele so my team below is:

    Friedel
    Naughton, Vertonghen, Chiriches, Fryers
    Sandro Holtby
    Lamela Kane Sigurdsson
    Adebayor

That team will win the game, Villa have the likes of Benteke and Agbonlahor out

  7. Blogger can i ask where you get your team ideas from, Siggy has played on the left this season and lamela both sides but prefers the right. Why would you position them on their unfavoured sides.

  8. I think you might wanna work backwards from our midday kick off on Saturday. That team will hopefully be:

    Lloris
    Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose
    Sandro Paulinho
    Lamela Eriksen Siggurdson
    Soldado

so ideally I wouldn’t want any of those playing, which means:

    Friedel
    Naughton Kaboul Chriches Fryers
    Dembele U21
    Townsend Holtby U21
    Kane

with first teamers to come on in the last 30 to win it.
