There is no official word from the club as yet but head coach Andre Villas-Boas faces up to the prospect of losing several players to injury ahead of tonight’s game. AVB has already complained about the schedule issues that this game has caused and it’s no wonder he’s likely to leave deputy Steffen Freund in the technical area this evening.
Etienne Capoue, Danny Rose, Nacer Chadli, Aaron Lennon, Younes Kaboul and Jermain Defoe may all miss out so who’s left?
Hugo Lloris will presumably be rested so will it be Brad Friedel or will we be treated to a rare sighting of Heurelho Gomes in a Tottenham shirt?
Andre is unlikely to risk any of the players named above but in defence, Vlad Chiriches may come in for his debut unless the coach wants to save him for weekend action against Chelsea. On the left, much as we’d rather not see left footed Kyle Naughton there, he’s likely to continue.
From the midfield onwards, Sandro, Erik Lamela and Lewis Holtby could all feature while Harry Kane may lead the line. Other options include Jon Obika and Shaq Coulthirst while Simon Dawkins, who was on loan at Villa last season could also get a start.
It’s almost impossible to predict: Will AVB sacrifice the game with an academy side or will it be a mix of youth and experience? Here’s our punt but what’s your view?
