At 25, Simon Dawkins is a little too old to remain on the fringes of the Spurs side and while he continues to get a place in the club’s 25 man squad, hopes of a first appearance seem more distant than ever.
In January 2013, Dawkins joined Aston Villa on a loan until the end of the campaign but only made four appearances for the Midlands club who were struggling for Premier League survival at the time. Simon returned in the summer but has now joined Derby on a week’s trial – will this be enough for new boss Steve McClaren to judge whether he can do a job in the Championship?
The player’s best times have come in the MLS with San Jose Earthquakes where he became something of a fans’ favourite, scoring 14 times in 53 games in the process. We’ll probably never find out if he can perform at Spurs but will this very brief spell in the East Midlands eventually end Simon Dawkins’ White Hart Lane exile?
