During the summer Spurs were linked at length with a move for Croatian midfielder Alen Halilovic. Still only 17, the Dinamo Zagreb midfielder had already broken into the full national side and was predictably dubbed the ‘new Modric’ as a result but as the winter window starts to draw closer, the rumours of a move to the Lane have started once again.
But how close are we to landing the attacking midfielder, who made his professional debut at the age of 17? If you believe our old friends over at The Metro, the net is tightening after Daniel Levy met with Zagreb officials on three separate occasions recently.
Halilovic could conceivably be available on a free in the summer so it’s claimed by the Newspaper that Tottenham are offering a straight cash deal in January of £12m up front with £3m to follow depending on appearances.
However, other parts of the press suggest that the winter approach is already dead with the player’s father intervening once again. Family and agent are alleged to want a guarantee of first team football or there’s no deal in sight.
Halilovic is obviously a gifted player but there seem to be so many obstacles in the way of this transfer that it’s hard to see anything coming to fruition. However, there’s always the possibility that The Metro have got something right…

Evee get the feeling Levy is sanctioning the signing of these young ‘potentials’ to sell them for a fat profit the momoment they fulfill that potential? No other team would’ve spent £30m on Lamella. Chadli and Lamela will cut it here, they just need time to settle, get a run of games when injuries strike, and they will, so we need the FULL squad we have got. With Halilovic we do not throw our youngsters straight in at 17, nor should we. Look at Michael Owen, he was burnt out at 27/28. It is very naive of his Father, if true, to expect to go to a big club at his age and get first team football. If this is a stumbling block then best move on to other targets. We already have, Carroll, Ceballos, Pritchard, Falque as developers in place, out on loan, to fight for places in years to come.
