A number of reports in the media suggest that Spurs are about to prepare a January bid for Swedish ‘wonderkid’ Valmir Berisha who announced himself on the world stage with a hat trick in the under 17 world cup against Argentina.

He’s Swedish so he’s predictably been dubbed the ‘New Ibrahimovic’ and while £500,000 may be cheap these days even for a 17 year old, there may be more than one reason why few Tottenham fans will be excited at the news.

Concerns up front remain after the club finished their first ten games of the Premiership season with just nine goals to their credit. Berisha may be a promising player and a serious one for the future but if there is a problem up front then he isn’t the answer right now.

Secondly, we still have Souleymane Coulibaly – the ‘New Drogba’ at the club who has a record of 10 goals in seven games for the Ivory Coast’s under 21 side. Coulibaly has been absent from the headlines this season but seems to have just returned to action following a three month injury lay off. If Spurs are serious about investing in Berisha then Souleymane is pressing for an equal opportunity to prove he has a future at the club.

  2. That goal record is 10 goals in 7 appearances for the under 17 side – never played for the under 21’s.

    In answer to Eric’s question, he was loaned to Grosseto – scoring 2 in 12 – although I seem to remember a lot of sub appearances for him.
