Tottenham’s Andros Townsend takes a break for international duty over the next few days but his early focus was firmly on Spurs as he spoke to reporters. There has been a lot of attention on the winger following a Man of the Match performance on his international debut but the stats show that his end product at club level is a concern.

Townsend has scored one rather fortunate goal in the Premier League this season and with no assists to add, the player admits there is room for improvement.

“Goals and assists make you un-droppable and I know there are great players all vying for two wing spots at Spurs so I need to get more goals and assists to cement my place in the team and not give the manager an excuse to drop me,” Andros has told TalkSport.

The rest of the interview focuses on his world cup aspirations but the first part of that quote is the telling one. Goals and assists do make you un-droppable and while both are below par, should Andros Townsend be dropped back to the bench when Spurs face Manchester City at the Etihad later this month?

  1. Yes time to drop him for a while … his stats alone provides ample evidence he is not doing it – bring him back after a while….

  2. It’s obvious that he is far from being the finished article and to be honest I can’t wait to see him dropped to the bench. He is a selfish player and our team and in particular Soldado are paying the price. We don’t score goals and we will never do if this boy carry on like that. I’ve said that 4-4-2 is the formation that saved us last season and was the platform ti go on such unbeaten run. We tried 4-2-3-1 and it was a failure last season and the same thing is happening again. In Lamela we have a player that can occupy the second striker position and make a good partnership with Soldado. The boy has skills, desire and most importantly can score goals. Something that Townsend simply can not. When I saw him scoring that goal for England I’ve said it that Tottenham will struggle and I was right. Lennon must take his place, Chadli all being well on the left. Siggy is not a winger Dear AVB, never has been and never will be. 4-4-2 of course will require only two midfielders and based on performance Sandro and Eriksen are first pick. Then I can see us playing the Tottenham Way again and with pace and creativity up front and stability at the back

    • totally agree with everything you say
      my team would be
      lloris
      walker kaboul vertonghen rose
      lennon sandro eriksen chadli
      soldado lamela

subs dembele adebayor paulinho capoue townsend defoe and chillaces

  3. I actually want him to focus on assists as part of his development and let the goals come for now – Bale wasn’t prolific for years but he used to carve teams open and create the goals for everyone else – then he added the goals to his game… think this is a path Andros should follow
