Spurs took a much needed three points from Craven Cottage last night but the win was soured slightly by an injury to Jan Vertonghen. There’s no official word from the club as to the extent of the problem but Andre Villas-Boas’ words suggest that the defender may well miss Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.

“He rolled his ankle and I think at the moment it’s quite swollen. We’ll assess it today medically. I don’t want to rule him out immediately. At the moment it’s quite swollen.”

With Danny Rose still struggling, AVB is seriously short of options to cover the left back position. We may well see Kyle Naughton deputise once again although that thought will alarm most supporters ahead of another vital match.

Other possibles include Zeki Fryers while we understand that Vlad Chiriches has also played there in the past. For now, we hope that either Jan or Danny can recover in time but if both are absent then the club will surely head into the January transfer market in an attempt to finally solve this problem position.

    • It might be because BAE only performed when he wanted to! Far to inconsistent a player who, generally, did well against the big teams but struggle while facing the smaller ones. Benoit also had a terrible knack of just lumping the ball down the park/line when in possession. not to mention the amount of times he use to stand off his man, to allow cross after cross to enter our box unopposed.

There IS a reason BAE (an experienced interational) currently finds himself at a club the size of QPR.

Rose is DEFINATELY an upgrade, for me.

  1. The loaning of BAE to QPR for a whole season(don’t think there is a recall clause but could be mistaken) is dreadful mismanagement.I am surprised that the press or fans have “not made more out of it”.An absolute disgrace and AVB should take full responsibility……

  2. Typical AVB given 110m and yet doesnt fulfill the one position he knew we would need due to the fact he hates BAE.

I would play Chiriches there, Naughton is awful and Fryers is a risk

Chriches is so good he could play anywhere, a proper footballer, Kaboul and Dawson in the middle and then when Rose is back send Dawson to QPR, did you see the guys distribution for the Fulham goal, my god he is so sunday league

  3. I never understood quite why Benny was left out like this. To me he was one of the most colorful players Spurs has had in a long time. I remember one of my girlfriends used to come by while I was watching Spurs and asked “who is playing” and then she had a glance, saw Benny, and said, oh yeah that guy (referring to his hair) and that was really the trademark of the team, the guy with the hair.
I am behimd AVB, but he has done some nutty stuff, especially with reference to Benny and Ade. “I don’t like africans”? or, “I only like players under 27”? I can only guess…….

Unfortunately, ‘colourful’ does NOT equate to talent.

    • what has being a “colourful” player got to do with being any good? BAE is certainly a character but he was also a terribly unreliable left back and not the best “team man” we’ve ever had, often caught upfield and making little effort to race back to help out

  4. Yes we can recall Benoit Ekotto, it will incur a hefty fee probably £2 million but I’m not sure exactly how much we loaned him out for but the penalty will add at least a £1 million. But personally I think Vlad Chiriches could cover LB with Dawson at CB and Walker at RB, deploying two CDM Sandro and Capoue, that way Dembele and Pauliniho could play CM with Lennon and Townsend on the wings providing for Soldado.

    • Playing Dawson all together is a cardinal sin, especially after his latest calamity last night, but as your team suggests, playing him at CB on his own is just unthinkable!!

  5. Benny was actually with the Spurs fans last night at Craven Cottage. I like him a lot. All the people complaining above forget that it’s something of a freak to have both your left backs out injured.

    • No Mildew, Vertonghen is not a left back, he is not happy playing where he is. Everyone is “moaning” that our natural left back was loaned out. Thus leaving poor options to cover.

  6. Shut up about BAE. We all love him but his attitude sucks! We are better off without him. Once Rose is fit again he will be great. I prefer to give Fryers a chance at the back.

  7. Heard stuart pearce once played with a broken ankle after a couple of shots, it was on talksport though. Reckon verts will be okay with all the modern methods. If not give fryers a go and vlad can always move over to LB if needed. COYS.

  8. Chiriches at LB, Dawson & Kaboul in the centre and Walker RB. Sandro and Holtby in the engine room and Lamela, Dembele and Lennon behind Soldado.

1-4 easy win and back in the hunt.

  9. IT DON`T MATTER WHO PLAYS LEFT BACK THEY ARE ALL PLONKERS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF VERTONGHEN OF COURSE I MUCH PREFER HIM IN THE CENTRE OF DEFENCE , WATCHED EKOTTO AFEW TIMES WITH QPR HE CERTAINLEY IS NO LOSS HE`S GOT WORSE IF ANYTHING WE ARE IN THE DO DO THATS FOR SURE AND WE MUST GIVE SUNDERLAND A MAULING THREE POINTS AT ALL COST WE ARE CAPABLE OF IT WITH OR WITHOUT A LEFT FULL BACK , WE CAN ADAPT A 5 X 3 X 2 PLAN GET ON WITH IT AVB .

    • Here’s a few minuscule letters, as your keyboard seems to have run out of it. aaaaabbbbbbccccccdddddeeeeeffffggggghhhhhiiiijjjjjj

I’ll throw in a few dots as well, as you seem to have run out of those ones too. …………………………….

  10. Going by the previous understatements by AVB when referring to injured players see Kaboul sandro Rose if he says he will probably miss the Sunderland match we can expect he could probably miss the next 2 months.

  11. It’s obvious y AVB don’t like Benny, Benny’s a footballer AVB don’t like footballers as fullbacks he jus likes athletes that can get up the pitch to overlap the inverted wingers and get back quick. Before AVB came Benny was on his best form. Walker defensively can be shocking at times but is good at getting up and down the pitch and if it was a problem with him lumping it up the pitch then Dawson wouldn’t get a game coz his the most guilty of that
