Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that both Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen are with the squad and could play a part in tonight’s final group game. Meanwhile, Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches and Jan Vertonghen are ruled out as the club looks to complete a 100% winning record in this phase.

“We will look to try and give Danny Rose a couple of minutes in this game and Christian Eriksen is also selected, so there is the possibility that he could play some minutes as well,” said AVB.

“There is a good possibility that Vlad might be available for the game against Liverpool, but not tomorrow,” he added.

Laste Dombaxe, Ryan Fredericks and Shaq Coulthirst are also included and could feature at some stage but with injuries at the back, the defence probably picks itself. The only real question is whether AVB persists with Lloris in goal or will Friedel slot in with the group already won.

At the top of the pitch, expect Roberto Soldado to come in for some game time while there’s the usual scrap for places in the middle of the park.

Here’s how we think it could start but what’s your view?

    • 4511 again? Surely not, what a waste of time and effort this formation has been for us all season. Surely its time for 442? I dont think that Soldado is a) used to being a single striker b) ever going to improve until he partners with another striker c) OR unless our NON-inverted wingers start to cross the ball into his preferred area.

  1. Surely its time for 442!

and depending who is in the squad (and i havent caught up with all of the news) again surely shouldnt Ade and Defoe / Soldado / Coulthirst getting a run out. Why is Ade my preference, because 1) he’s techncially very good with the ball at his feet 2) he’s good in the air 3) he makes runs into space 4) from his small part in the 6-0 drubbing when he came on he looked like we need to give him another chance. Thoughts???

  2. No 442please!!! Leaves Teams gaping in the middle and without strikers who will score in abundance to compensate like man city!! We will leak shit loads of goals! People complained with Harry’s 442 just go and play approach we should be lookin forwrd! Yes 4231 isn’t workin as good as some would like( me included) but Avb has a higher win performance than Harry and more points ever achieved with this same formation! Bayern/Real Madrid/burrusia Dortmund all play or have played with it and won things, behave they got better players maybe!! But the principed are the same we have excellent players more than capable of achieving! My team for tonight would be mainly youth with soldado/eriksen/rose gettin game time at some point!

    Team for Liverpool!!!

    ……………..lloris……………….
    ..walker..capoue…vlad…rose.

    ………..sandro…..paulinho…..

    …Lennon……eriksen…..Townsend….

    …………….soldado…………

If verts is fit ovb he would take capoue place.

  3. Not sure why Dawson has been getting so much stick recently. At his best, Dawsons positional sense, reading of the game and timing of his tackles make him a VERY good CB.
When he ISN’T quite at his sharpest than he can struggle to cope with quick feet, speed/pace or players running directly at him.

But the reason why I’m so mystified by all the recent criticism is because Dawson has ALWAYS had these strengths/weaknesses, and yet it seems only now that people are picking up on them.

It seems to me that the same people that were heralding Dawson as a integral part of the Spurs backline, are now, all of a sudden, writing him off as useless, even preferring to use a CM (Capoue) as a regular replacement.

Yes Capoue had a good game against a limited Sunderland side, but that does not mean he is ready (or even willing) to perform at CB, in the EPL, over the long term!

Plenty of CB’s in the EPL have a similar skill-set to Dawson and have enjoyed successful careers in the EPL. Vidic, Terry, Skertel, Carragher and Mertersacker (to name a few) have never been blessed with pace or a GREAT deal of mobility, but have all managed to perform to a high standard in the EPL.

So why write off Daws (at a time when we NEED him the most)?

Specialist, experienced, CBs are ALWAYS a better bet to start/play matches than makeshift CBs…

    Team for tonight

    Friedel

    Naughton Dawson Fryers Rose

    Capoue Holtby

    Lamela Sigurdsson Townsend

    Soldado

Needs must with Fryers, who, if memory serves me correctly, performed admirably at CB in Pre-season.
Rose to get 45 mins on his return.

Holtby gets the nod from deeper to continue his impressive form, while the unfortunate (to be dropped) Sigurdsson returns just ahead of him.

Townsend and Lamela get the opportunities to brush off any rust, and build confidence, out wide.
Soldado gets the nod up front.

Townsend to get 70 mins before Eriksen replaces him.

    • completely agree that Dawson is first choice at the moment, and i like your team however AVB has been quoted as saying Rose will get ‘a few minutes’ which suggests he won’t be in the starting line up.

  4. Ramos43- your correct tbf I’ve wrote him off myself but you make a very good argument and the more I think about it the more your right but with a fully fit vlad and verts they would be my 1st choice center backs. What about a 433 against Liverpool who will prob line up similar without sturidge.
    ………..lloris…………….
    ..walker..daws…vlad…rose.

    ………….sandro………..
    …holtby/paulinho…..eriksen..

    ..lamela….soldado..Townsend..

    • if it’s 4 3 3 then a midfield of Sandro Dembele and Paulhino worked well, harsh on Holtby and I would be suprised if Ericson is plunged straight back into a tough league match.

  5. Friedel
    Fredericks Dawson Fryers Naughton
    Capoue Holtby
    Lamela Sigurdsson Townsend
    Soldado

Subs: Lloris, Dombaxe, Capoue, Dembele, Chadli, Eriksen, Defoe

  6. It does work well I just don’t think they offer enough creativity eriksen played on the left if the midfield 3 fur Ajax and was emence! And it’s between holtby and eriksen fit the other spot! Sandro holding!
