With the Spurs managers job very much up for grabs, several names are being mentioned and as with all clubs, old boys will be linked to the post no matter their current standing might be. Aside from Tim Sherwood, two in particular are standing out as far as the press are concerned.
Firstly it seems we can rule out Jurgen Klinsmann who will not be leaving his current post as USA boss, at least according to his current employers.
“We’re not oblivious to the fact Jurgen’s success has attracted interest from outside the US,” said United States Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati.
“Therefore there were pragmatic market considerations in offering him a new long-term contract.
“It’s not specifically the Switzerland or Tottenham issues — but the desire to have a commitment from him, contractually, for a long time is vital.”
Klinsmann is a rank 22/1 outsider for the job following those comments but what about Glenn Hoddle who would be far more receptive, should he get the call? According to a website owned by our former player and manager, he would be happy to help the club if they were to approach him.
That move would also be welcomed by yet another former boss, Ossie Ardiles.
“For me, the man for the job is Glenn Hoddle,’ Ossie said.
“I think he is a wonderful manager and he is a lot more mature, so I think he will be a wonderful choice.
“He knows everything about the Premier League and Spurs especially.”
Could it be true that Glenn is a better manager and far more suited to the Spurs job than he was when he took over back in 2001? Harry Redknapp has suggested that we need someone who understands Tottenham so who better than Hoddle?
Bring him in to do the job Cruyff did at Barcelona and create a style of play that is played by all Spurs age groups. Have him mentor Tim Sherwood and put plans in place to bring more great coaches and former players through the system, cutting their teeth with youth and reserve teams. The biggest problem we’ve had with the majority of managerial appointments over the years is that they don’t play the right style of football for the club or the fans.
