Lewis Holtby received some game time under Andre Villas-Boas but since Tim Sherwood took over at White Hart Lane, the German has faced a frustrating period on the sidelines. Unfortunately for fans of the midfielder, it’s World Cup year and that means everyone is looking for more opportunities in order to impress their national bosses.

Holtby is no exception although his hopes of travelling to Rio seem slimmer than most. However, his situation could mean a return to his former club Schalke 04 before the window closes.

“Lewis is desperate to play, which is why we are looking intensively for solutions,” said his agent Marcus Noack.

“Schalke is an interesting option.”

The Guardian believes that any deal could be a temporary one at this stage but does it make sense to send Lewis away? Does he have a future at Spurs if he can remain patient in an overcrowded midfield?
