Kyle Naughton arrived at Spurs along with Kyle Walker in July 2009 but his progression hasn’t mirrored that of his former Sheffield United team mate. While Walker has made the right back position his own, Naughton has had to make do with a series of loan spells and a stint covering the left back position which led only to widespread criticism.

With Ryan Fredericks coming along nicely and Adam Smith impressing while out on loan, Naughton now has plenty of competition on either side of defence and all that could lead to a move away from the club in the January transfer window.

It’s claimed that Aston Villa are in pole position if Spurs decide that Naughton is surplus to requirements this month. Villains’ boss Paul Lambert has previously worked with the player at Norwich where he was given an extended run during another loan stint.

Kyle Naughton’s Spurs career may end up being defined by an unfortunate run while covering in an unfamiliar position but a sale before the end of the month would surprise very few.

  1. Hopefully Sunday we will see Kyle N’s true worth. I feel he brings a bit of calm to the defence and looks for different options better. Case in point was his Superb ball to Ade who flicked on for Ericksen to score last weekend. One of Spurs steady understudies who needs more playing time to show his true worth in his own position.

  2. Walker has become to cocky and complacent. Might do him good to miss out and let Naughton have a go. Defensively can’t be any worse.
