Before Adam Johnson joined Sunderland from Manchester City, the winger was widely linked with a move to Spurs but that talk came to nothing as the player ended up on Wearside in 2012. After the transfer, Johnson struggled to find his best form but he is on a hot streak with the Black Cats and predictably, the stories have emerged once again.
It’s thought that Everton were interested in taking the winger in January but the 26 year old opted to stay in the North East and help his team survive the drop. However, the claims state that both Everton and Tottenham would go back in the summer with an offer in the region of £9m.
Johnson has nine goals this term in a struggling side so would he bring more to the club than our current wide men – Townsend, Lamela and Lennon? From the player’s point of view, he has been in International exile since leaving City so even if Sunderland stay up, it may be a tempting move.
This may be another case of joining the dots and bringing up an old link but it’s not the most unlikely story that we’ll see leading up to the next transfer window.
