As Spurs’ hopes of a top four finish rest in the balance, we can expect more stories linking our best players with the exit door. After Hugo Lloris gave the merest hint that he would be on his way at the end of the season, the press were picking up on more transparent comments from Belgian centre back Jan Vertonghen.
“What I want is to play in the Champions League with Tottenham so hopefully I will get there this year,” he said.
When asked if he would consider a move to another club he added.
“Those are always difficult questions,” at this point the Express quote Jan as ‘stammering’. “I have made no complaints about that. Let’s see after the end of the season and after the World Cup.”
Reports today claim that Tottenham are looking to extend the four year deal that Verty signed when he arrived at the club in 2012. His wages are £40k a week and that’s another area of concern when the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona are said to be hovering.
The most depressing part of this is the knowledge that these stories will only get worse and could well extend to other players in the squad. Question is, can Spurs dig deep enough to keep Vertonghen and the rest at White Hart Lane?
Let’s face it, what decent player would want to stay at dysfunctional Spurs under the stewardship of tiny tim when they thought they were part of a big project at a big club under AVB. I know i would be pissed right off if it was me!1
Why would Vertoghan stay at Spurs for £40k per week when he could get at least £100k per week at Man Utd? Spurs can’t match what the likes of Man Utd could offer him in wages.
Vertoghan left Ajax because Spurs paid him more money. He will join Man Utd if they offer him more money than Spurs can afford to pay him. It’s as simple as that. He’s a mercenary.
All this talk of him leaving Spurs because they wont be in the Champions League is rubbish. He did after all leave AJAX for Spurs. AJAX were in the Champions League whereas Spurs were not!! He will leave Spurs for MORE money. It’s that simple.

Problem is we missed the boat 3 seasons ago 12 point lead over the scum blew it because levy failed to get the checkbook out in jan following season the same thing, now we are playing catch up again well done levy the only thing he has done right is sack avb thursday football again and another season of what if.
