Whatever your opinion of Tim Sherwood may be, at least he doesn’t try to mask a poor performance on the pitch. Spurs were never at their best in beating Cardiff 1-0 at White Hart Lane and the Head Coach acknowledged that fact when speaking to the club’s official website.

“The performance wasn’t great and I’m not going to insult anyone’s intelligence by suggesting otherwise,” Sherwood said.

“We weren’t fantastic, weren’t free-flowing, but we managed to get in front, Robbie scored and we’re all delighted about that.”

Former Spur Steven Caulker rattled the crossbar and while that was as close as Cardiff got to drawing level, Sherwood acknowledged that the scoreline was a dangerous one.

“You can never be completely comfortable as they were hitting balls into the box, a wrong bounce of the ball and they could stick one away,” he added.

“I thought the boys stood up to it and I was confident every time the ball went into the box that one of our players would put their head on it, and invariably it was Michael Dawson.

“I thought we earned the right, we showed them that we’re up for the fight and we battled through. It’s three points and we’re happy with that.”

The win keeps us in fifth and while we are two points behind Manchester City, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have two games in hand. Meanwhile, the teams in second and third – Liverpool and Arsenal – are six points clear of us, having played the same amount of matches.

So ten games to go now and next up is Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in next Saturday’s late kick off.

  1. It was mo way a convincing wim!! Soldado deserved a goal and hope he goes on a good run now!! Dawson has a good game?? Verts shoeing zidane showboating, we have a huge concern in midfield? Paulinho and dembelee not really in the game and toeend n lennon not really producing anything? Chadli isnt convinving either. Sandro needs to play the next fixtures with our only creator eriksen!! Rose has to go ??? Hes the size of a junior school kid!! And plays like one too? He cannot defend and in the summer we need a good left back, true wingers, hopefully lamela if stays can take the right side. A central defend who has pace? A young striker with pace to run at people. Come on spurs and show your true colours now until the end of the season.. then hopefuly tims work experience is completed and someone who is top class comes in.

    • He is by no where near a top four finish player! Thats what we need game changers who can produce. Whole point of wingers is to run at defences and cross and our players cannot produce anywhere near that quality soldado has needed to score!!! Townsend shoots from 30yds and chadli should have produced more with his physique and heading ability.

  2. We’re actually 4 points behind City. Aresnal look the most likely side above us to falter, let’s hope so.

I have to admit Dawson played quite well here. I thought Lennon was man of the match. Add to that Soldado’s winner and three of our worst recent performers won this game for us.

My thoughts on the game are here: http://wp.me/p2Sby9-AP
