Only Spurs could have you throwing the remote at the TV for 75 minutes before seducing you with false hope for the next fifteen and then leaving you a discarded and emotionally bereft husk on the final whistle.

We didn’t really deserve to go through but we were one disputed penalty claim from taking the tie with Benfica to extra time and while it’s been a dismal few weeks, there were just a couple of highlights.

It’s easy for managers to say they’re taking positives from a defeat but the claims this time would be genuine. Firstly there was Nacer Chadli, who epitomised the whole team performance – quiet for most of it before suddenly coming alive. His future at White Hart Lane may still be open to conjecture but here is a winger who can cut in and hit the target in a way that Andros Townsend can rarely manage: I would comfortably keep the Belgian at the club and move Townsend on.

Then we had two assists from Harry Kane: We’ve seen links to Burnley’s Danny Ings but I’d prefer Kane to be given a real chance to establish himself as third striker. Finally, the whole pace and energy of the tie changed when Christian Eriksen came on and if the Dane is left on the bench this Sunday then there are serious issues with the coach’s judgement – assuming Eriksen is fit of course.

So overall it was a terrible night with the odd exception and I think I may have even seen Nabil Bentaleb play a forward pass…

  1. The last 15 mins felt like the 89 mins against Le arse we had momentum, possession, drive and created some good chances (2 we scored) but as is always the way with spurs we left dissapointed, Sandro should be docked a weeks wages for that idiotic tackle in the 92nd minute aswell. COYS!

  2. Sandro saw the red mist and shouldnt of given the penalty away, unlikely he was gonna score anyway. I would like to say well done to our lads last night.. they played well… bentelab and chadli did greatand need to be retained… lennon and townsend need to go!!! Thry add nothing to our squad apart from pace…. steven hawkins can pass a ball better than them… eriksen is the real deal!! Soldado nedds time and next season judge him. With soldado, lamela, ciriches, eriksen and on last nights showing chadli coming good.. next sesaon people may be eating there words coys…buy remy and a left back such as evra, schmiecal to push lloris, lascelles and left winger konoplyos

    • Better idea swap dawson for caulker!! Cardiff will go down we get csulker back and they get dawson who would be great in chsmpionship!! Schmiecal and evra are on free transfers and remy is available for 8mill… with winger konoplyonko coming for fifteen mill. I figure if u sell capoue, townsend, rose!!!, lennon, siggy and with defoe of the wages im sure that will more than cover the trssfers!!! Then build our stadium n get rid of sherwood!!!! Coys

      • I like a lot of yout ideas. Caulker in Dawson out. It would cost a few (5) million, but surely worth it.
If Lloris wants CL football now, sell him and get 15-20 mil and get Scheimchel for free.
New left back for sure. If a club in England is willing to believe the hype about Townsend, sell him for the 20 mil. an English national player cost as a minimum these days.
And of course a new manager.

In Levy we trust. (please get us our new stadium soon)

  3. We were playing against a top top team away from home, and even before the last 15 mins I thought we did really well. No stupid highline and our defense looked quite decent. Started to wonder if vertonghan is maybe our problem. Soldado disappointed again but overall very decent. Would have been nice if we won. Last year arsenal beat bayern but got knocked out. That was there start of a great run. Maybe we can do something similar

    • I’ve been saying Lennon is useless for the last few years only now people are starting to realise, I wrote on this blog a few times that Chadli is very good technically and can turn with the ball comfortably under pressure, something only Townsend, eriksen, dembele, and chadli can do and u need that in the big games.
