A week ago we published an article suggesting that next year’s Tottenham coach build his team around Christian Eriksen and from the reaction we got in the comments, it seems most of you agree. The Dane was pretty much unchallenged as our Man of the Match and his performance against Southampton on Sunday drew praise from current boss Tim Sherwood.
“Christian gets himself in positions to score goals and possesses real quality. He affects the game, doesn’t just take part in it, even with that pass to Gylfi late on,“ Sherwood said.
It will be pointed at that his two goals were pretty straightforward but you still have to get in those positions and that’s just another positive side to his all round game. Even the touch to Sigurdsson was perfect and we were very grateful to have Eriksen on the pitch from the first whistle.
To affect the match in the way he did, Christian has to start and that’s something that hasn’t always been guaranteed. Sherwood left the Dane on the bench for three Premiership games in succession recently but surely that display has to make him the first name on the team sheet – even if it is just behind Nabil Bentaleb!
