When Gylfi Sigurdsson left Hoffenheim on a permanent basis in 2012, it was felt by some that he would join up with Brendan Rodgers who had guided him through a loan spell at Swansea. Liverpool may have seemed a likely destination and although the Merseyside club seem destined for a top four finish this season, the Icelandic International says he has no regrets about turning them down.
“At the time I was really happy to come to Tottenham, and I still am,” Sigurdsson said. “I’m really enjoying it. It’s a fantastic club and in the last couple of seasons we’ve shown the ambition to become better.
“Hopefully in the next couple of years, it will be really good. Because they didn’t qualify for Europe, Liverpool are playing one game a week and it’s benefited them quite a bit, because they’re fresh and ready to go in every game.”
It’s been an injury hit season for the 24 year old but he showed his potential value to the side with Sunday’s late winner against Southampton – one of a selection of vital goals he has scored for us. Some say he does little other than find the net but that’s not a bad quality to have so should Gylfi Sigurdsson start more games for Spurs or is the midfielder better used as an impact sub?
Best as a sub i reckon next season along with bentelab… they are both young and can develop!! We only need either toeend or lennon next season as lamela and new left winger will be with us… i suggest sell lennon while we can as added nothing this season and again townsend can be a sub!!!! Get rid of rose, dawson unfortunatley, capoue and keep holtby as we have no one willing to work as hard as him!!! So long as he doesnt let his lifestyle affect his football??? Taking selfies etc…. lets hope the stadium plans take off this next season and help us kick on !!! Coys
Top player with so much POTENTIAL. I just wish he played more. The amount of goals he could score from midfield would GREATLY benefit the team. He would be Tottenhams answer to Frank Lampard. A confident Gyfil who feels loved and appreciated is a VERY dangerous player, indeed.
We have mostly used him on the left. On the weekend he was deployed more centrally and I think this site him better.
