The press seem adamant that Steven Caulker will leave Cardiff at the end of the campaign if the Welsh side are plunged straight back into the Championship. That scenario is looking more likely after a 4-0 defeat to Sunderland at the weekend left the Bluebirds at the foot of the table and they must earn points in their remaining two games against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Caulker has been the stand out performer in a leaky defence that has seen the side let in 69 goals in this campaign – even more than ourselves – and it’s unlikely that the 22 year old, who retains England ambitions, will want to spend a season in English football’s second tier.

As a former Spurs player, a return to White Hart Lane may appeal but it would also be foolish to think we will be the only team lining up for Caulker’s signature. Liverpool have issues at the back amidst concerns over Daniel Agger’s form and manager Brendan Rodgers has first hand experience of the player from his loan spell at Swansea. The Reds can also offer Champions League football next year.

In hindsight, selling Steven Caulker was big mistake but will the player be tempted by a move back to Spurs or does his future lie elsewhere?

    • I think it was right to keep Dawson as leadership is sorely lacking within the club and, say what you will about Dawson, he is a leader.
Should not have sold caulker though

  1. Levy do the honoriable thing get Caulker back to the lane promise him the captaincy double his wages and build the team around him and then resign .

  2. there are other reasons for not buying him but he is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! DID YOU PEOPLE EVER WATCH THESE PLAYERS LIVE AND OFTEN

  3. Caulker hasn’t been the stand out performer in Cardiff’s leaky defence this season. Marshall has, Caulker is meant to be organising the defence which consistently lets his goalie down.

    • agree with gav not quite up to it there are other very good cb around maybe southampton cb pairing much better choice caulker good but a little pedestrian at times

  4. I did’nt agree with Spurs letting Caulker leave and retained Dawson however on reflection, is he really good enough to become another Ledley King or dare I say it, Sol Campbell? Is he physical enough and fast enough to live with pacey forwards as our two former centre halves were, they ate forwards for breakfast? I honestly have my doubts if Caulker is anywhere near the same mould as those two. The only one who came close is Kaboul and he’s looking dodgy at the moment.

  5. Thought we let caulker go because it was felt he was suspect defencively. I think he has matured somewhat but cardiff have had the exceptional marshall in goal. Alwaysw think caulker has a goal in him but am not convinced by his defensive qualities. If aston villa go down how about ron vlaar ! Vlaar is solid and with chiriches or kaboul next to him we may have a better defence.

  6. Keith is right….forget your dreams bout Caulker…….he was sold by Spurs for a reason…..Keith wouldn’t bring it up for Caulker’s sake and neither will I but apart from that he was too slow…..centre backs need pace now..he didn’t have it!

  7. Dawson and Kaboul …2 best players on the pitch on Saturday ….and we got a thread bout bringing back the only player who is slower than Dawson!
