After his predicted release by Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand is now a free agent and among the clubs reportedly chasing his signature are Spurs. The former England international is 35 now but has the quality to remain in the Premiership and out of the list of players to be let go by their clubs, Ferdinand is the most likely to find alternative employment.

Tottenham had issues with lack of cover in the heart of defence but many of us are hoping that the new coach will make a bid for a younger and less infirm Steven Caulker while Rio joins up with his former manager Harry Redknapp at Loftus Road.

Rio Ferdinand may be able to do a job for a Premiership club but with Younes Kaboul in the ranks, it’s surely too much of a risk to take on another injury prone centre half.
