Nabil Bentaleb was clearly very highly rated by former Spurs coach Tim Sherwood but fans’ opinions of the young midfielder were mixed to say the least. With Mauricio Pochettino arriving at White Hart Lane, the player faces an uncertain future, along with many of his team mates, but this summer’s World Cup could prove to be a good test of his credentials.
The 19 year old turned his back on his country of birth and chose Algeria over France and has since won thee full caps for his national side. In the upcoming tournament, the Algerians will line up against Russia, South Korea and Belgium where he could be facing up to three of his current club mates.
“It’s going to be amazing for me,” Bentaleb told Tottenham’s official website. “At the beginning of the season I was not expecting to play at the World Cup, I was looking to be at home watching it!
“I think it’s been a very good season for me.
“It’s my first season playing at the highest level and I think I did pretty well to get a chance to be in the World Cup.
“It’s going to be an amazing experience.”
Nabil may not be first choice in Brazil as there are more experienced players in this Algerian side but his cause will have been helped after scoring his first international goal against Vlad Chiriches’ Romania this week. There’s not much to interest Spurs fans at the World Cup but it will be fascinating to monitor Bentaleb’s progress and you can be certain that Mauricio Pochettino will be watching closely too.
All the best to the lad….it will add to his experience and only benefit spurs. Hes a good youngster and im sure pochettino will give him a chance when ready. Coys
