One of the most exciting young players at the World Cup so far has been Colombia’s 22 year old attacking midfielder James Rodriguez who scored the third goal in his country’s 3-0 win over Greece. That strike, together with his all round performance helped to seal the Man of the Match award.

That display also ensured that Rodriguez’s name was doing the rounds of the transfer gossip columns this week and among the clubs to be linked are Spurs. One issue may be that the player is currently at cash rich Monaco and his supposed reasons for wanting a move don’t sound all that plausible.

The Colombian has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League and here’s what he said back in 2012.

“I am only focused on Porto at the moment but I could not reject to play for Manchester United. It would please me.”

That move failed to materialise but Rodriguez has supposedly reasserted that wish to play in the Premiership and it’s also claimed that he is frustrated by the lack of competition to PSG and Monaco in Ligue 1.

United have been linked along with Spurs but is either really likely?
