As the world cup progresses more transfer links are coming in and sections of today’s press are reporting that Spurs have already made an offer for Marcelo Brozovic – a Dinamo Zagreb midfielder who has been away with Croatia at the World Cup.

Still only 21, the player has so far made two full international appearances for his country and while he may be one for the future, it’s thought that plenty of European clubs are chasing his signature this summer. Alongside Spurs, Inter Milan, Sevilla, Schalke 04 and Roma are all monitoring the situation and there are conflicting reports as to whether bids are already in.

“I don’t know what is going on,” said Dinamo director of sport Zoran Mamic. “But I know one thing: so far our club didn’t get any official offers for him.”

However, that’s not a view shared by the player’s agent.

“Two weeks ago I talked with Piero Ausilio from Inter about Brozovic,” said Miroslav Bicanic. “But that was two weeks ago and there have been no further contact. I know rumours but at the moment there are no official contracts.”

Spurs will continue to be linked with young Croatians as the hunt for the ‘next Modric’ continues. One report even claims we have made an offer but is there really any room for Marcelo Brozovic in our crowded midfield?

  1. Give carroll at chance at least, I dio worry about his physicality though just now. Send him out on loan to QPR again for fisrts half of season and see how he progressess

  2. Judging by the thoughts and feelings of most QPR fans, they don’t want him back as he couldn’t cut it at Championship level. I’ve read far more negative reviews than positives, and the few positives have been ‘keeps the ball moving with 5 yard passes’. I’d love for him to prove to be a top quality player, I just don’t think he ever will be.

All this nonsense about ‘the next Xavi/Modric’ is ridiculous. By Carroll’s age, Luka had 40 odd goals in 140 games at Championship standard, was a regular for his country and was being sought after by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. We’ve done this with Bentaleb, Kane, Bostock, Marney, Thelwell, Parrett and many more, and we’ll keep doing it too no doubt.

Carroll by comparison has been accused of going contributing little and going missing a lot. Perhaps another example of English players not being given a chance to prove themselves at the top level, alternatively, yet more proof that the academy system has failed and we (as a country) just don’t produce gifted players anymore.

    • Am i missing something , but dont we have another player from Denmark thats something special too! Thomas Carroll needs first team time to show what he has though.
Otherwise the academy is not being run as it should , i thought our state of the art training facilities were also for getting the next generation up to scratch , eh but what do i know……….COYS……….

  3. Im afraid Carroll wasnt good enough to make the grade at QPR!! Theyre fans say he has done nothing special whilst theyre on loan!! Bentelab is ahead of him and we have plenty of midfielders on our books. Lets hope we can get world talent attending our academy and cominf through the ranks. If they dont make the grade then we continue to loan and sell. Coys

  4. Carroll is known for moving the ball forward. Good at robbing opponents of the ball, too. Helps hold on to a game when a winning score needs to be defended. Plenty of people rate Tom Carroll, and Redknapp formerly of Tottenham, and a permanent commentator on Tottenham, wasn’t exactly slow in getting him for a season-long loan. TC is an avowed Spurs man, though, which will have rankled with some.

  5. At this time of year, it’s customary to find the rubbishing of players on contract in order to justify the obsessive longing for new players as every transfer window approaches. Twice a year as a transfer window approaches, the grumbling is the underside of lust for the ‘next big thing’.

  6. We need more than just defenders and a striker. We need decent wingers too. Lennon was brilliant 5 years ago but is not bringing us to the next level. Neither Townsend nor Chadli are good enough. These guys are squad players now. Who knows where Lamela should be playing. Maybe he is a 10. I cant see him as a flying winger. Sig will be sold as he aint good enough for a 10 , holtby is the same and eriksen can play wherever he wants, which could be cm next year? as we stand we are decidedaly average in at least 5 positions.
