Tottenham’s Kyle Walker has been unchallenged in the right back position for three seasons now but after another difficult campaign was brought to a premature end through injury, does he deserve to be an unrivalled first choice next year?
The press are concentrating on a new left back for Spurs but there are isolated rumours of new arrivals on the right side of defence. Meanwhile our 21 year old defender Ryan Fredericks, who spent part of last season at Millwall, is hoping to jump the queue and put pressure on his team mate.
“With Andros and Harry, you see what they’ve achieved this season and it is inspirational,” Fredericks is quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“It’s a cliché, but seeing them does make you believe in yourself and that you have a chance to do it as well. I’m lucky that I’ve managed to play as well this season and it gives you confidence to go out there and play well, you believe you can do it and I’ll try to get another chance.
“I’ve played with Andros and Harry for a while now and you look at Andros – he went on to play for England. You also see the likes of Ross Barkley at Everton coming through and these are players you’ve played against through the years, so it does give you confidence.”
Both Kane and Townsend came through spells at the Den to make it to the first team but how do you see the right back slot shaping up next season?
