At the start of July the press were reporting on Michael Dawson’s potential move to Hull City and suggesting that a transfer would shortly be tied up. Fast forward a couple of weeks and nothing has happened – possibly because of the speculation surrounding Jan Vertonghen or conceivably because there was no truth in it in the first place.
While the Hull rumours were hitting the headlines, QPR were also mentioned in despatches but their manager Harry Redknapp has denied that a bid has been put in.
“I like Michael. He is top player and a great lad as well,” Harry told talkSPORT.
“You would have Michael in your team any day of the week but we haven’t made any offers for Michael.”
Elsewhere, it’s claimed that Hull are still in pursuit of the centre half and the sticking point regards Dawson’s claims on a testimonial. Our current club captain would hit ten years’ service in January and wants the Tigers to offer a four year deal – something they aren’t prepared to do.
“As far as Michael is concerned, it’s stalemate and at the moment we are as far away as we can be from doing a deal,” said Hull manager Steve Bruce.
“Michael I’ve always liked, there’s no disputing that. But at the end of the day, he’s Tottenham captain with time left on his contract. It’s difficult but it’s something we’ve had a nibble at. We’ll see if it happens.”
