After a 3-3 draw with Seattle Sounders in their opening game of their North American tour, Spurs recorded a 3-2 victory over Toronto which was sealed by two goals from record signing Erik Lamela. The Argentine’s brace gave us a 2-0 lead going into the break and although the Canadians rallied to draw level, a strike from Andros Townsend sealed the win.

After the match, new Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino praised his team while reserving a special mention for the two goal Lamela.

“I’m very pleased because we had a very good performance and another 90 minutes to improve and learn our new style,” he said.

“We work hard in the training sessions and that’s what we need to show in the games. The result isn’t the most important thing, but how the squad improves.

“It was an also opportunity to play in front of our supporters in Toronto so yes, overall, I’m very happy.”

Turning to the match winner, Mauricio added,

“We expect a lot from him, he’s an unbelievable player,”

“He needs to show us that he deserves to play, but at the moment we are happy with his performance.”

The game was also notable for the first appearance in a Spurs shirt by new signing Ben Davies. The team now move on to tackle Chicago this Sunday.

  1. Lamela is a quality player, im sure he will prove all of his doubters wrong from last season! He just needed time to settle and will prove his worth. Coys….

  2. please, please, sell Dawson, he is now a liability, come on harry sign him, he is far too slow, and missing the the cross for the opponents first goal, in the first friendly, and conceding the penalty, and now a second silly mistake against Toronto, just shows how far he has dropped in terms of premiership football, as much as he loves spurs, he will cost us a lot of goals next season, if he plays, so now is the time to sell
