Things moved swiftly at White Hart Lane yesterday after stories emerged in the morning linking Spurs with a bid for Sporting Lisbon central defender Eric Dier. Later in the day, the club’s official website reported that agreement had been reached by both clubs and that the player would be signing subject to a medical.
A brief statement reads,
‘We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Eric Dier, subject to the player passing a medical.’
Dier’s family moved to Portugal when he was aged 10 and the player progressed through the ranks at Sporting before making his full debut for the senior side in 2012. Over the years, the centre back has played at four representative levels for England and currently has five under 21 caps.
So it’s not quite settled but it seems unlikely that the club would make this announcement if there was any chance of the player doing a ‘Loic Remy’. We therefore welcome Eric Dier and wish him all the best at White Hart Lane but where do you see him slotting in?
If spures miss morgen schenderlin they should target roma kevin strootman (including chiriches in deal)
Strootman is being offered for around €70million…not sure we’re looking to stretch to that kind of fee. Plus, he’ll want to join a big club in the CL, not play in the Europa League before being sold in two/three years time.
