Jan Vertonghen was a notable absentee as Spurs began their 2014-15 league campaign with a win at West Ham on Saturday but the Belgian international hopes to be fit to face AEL Limassol in Thursday night’s Europa League tie.
“I hope so, I have had a couple of good sessions the past couple of weeks together with the other World Cup guys and I hope to be ready for Thursday,” Jan said.
“It is the manager’s choice, of course, but I hope I can play and that I am allowed to play.”
The defender also showed a glimpse of positivity ahead of the new season as he commented on Saturday’s victory.
“I was very happy the team and it was a shame I wasn’t there. I really wanted to be in the bundle with the team at the end,” he added.
“They did very well to win the game; West Ham away is a very difficult place to go especially with ten men for a long part of the game.”
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino is expected to make plenty of changes for Thursday’s tie but will Vertonghen be involved?

Can’t agree with you Steve, sell Dawson he was never quick but is even slower now and for all his never say die reslience he is not a defender who can press up the pitch or pass out from the back. He just wont be able to play the way the manager wants. He could do really well somewhere like Hull or West Ham. Back up at Everton might even be an option.
