We’re used to seeing Andros Townsend run at the heart of the defence before unleashing a shot which rarely hits the target but the winger found the net last night for his second international goal as England overcame San Marino. Townsend’s strike will be seen as the highlight of a dour game and until he develops a second option when he has the ball, Spurs fans would be happy to see a repeat.
“The manager has always shown faith in me and although it was only against San Marino it was nice to come on and get my goal and repay the manager’s faith,” Andros said after the game.
The cynical among us would have noted how a clutch of defenders chose to stand off the England man before the keeper was beaten on the near post. But to give him credit, it was a good strike and it’s always nice to see a Spurs player on the mark for the full England side – it would be even better to see that type of accuracy in a Tottenham shirt.
