Half time frustrations led to full time relief as Spurs ultimately cruised to a 2-0 victory over Brighton to book their place in the quarter finals of this season’s league cup. The goal scorers are starting to look familiar – Erik Lamela and Harry Kane found the net to seal the match and afterwards, head coach Mauricio Pochettino declared himself satisfied with the outcome.
“It was a good performance and I’m happy for the team because it’s important for us to make it into the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup,” said Pochettino.
“We created a lot of chances and deserved more in terms of the result but we’re happy with the performance. It was a good victory.”
In the last eight, Spurs face a home tie against Newcastle – giving us a chance for quick revenge against the team who took the points away from White Hart Lane at the weekend.
“The draw is always difficult, it’s a quarter-final and a good motivation for us to play at home against Newcastle,” the boss added.
Meanwhile, the Magpies looked impressive as they dumped holders Manchester City out of the competition and if anything, the task will be even harder when the teams meet in the quarter finals.
