Ahead of today’s cup final, here’s five Tottenham performances against Chelsea to give Spurs fans hope.

5. Tottenham 5 Chelsea 1 – 2002

Glenn Hoddle’s Tottenham side scored the first victory over Chelsea for eons and it was well worth waiting for. Having lost the first leg of the Carling Cup semi final 2-1, Spurs bounced back with an emphatic 5-1 second leg win.

Iverson, Sherwood, Sheringham, Davies and Rebrov were our goalscorers. Here’s Teddy scoring an absolute peach.

4. Tottenham 2 Chelsea 1 – 1967

Spurs have played two cup finals against Chelsea and won them both. The first came in 1967, when Tottenham beat them to win the FA Cup.

Jimmy Robertson and Frank Saul scored either side of half-time to put Spurs 2-0 up. Chelsea pulled one back but could not deny Tottenham victory.

3. Tottenham 4 Chelsea 4 – 2008

A 4-4 draw is a very rare scoreline in football, unless that is your side is being managed by Juande Ramos. Chelsea kept going ahead, but we just kept pegging them back. 1-0 Chelsea, then we equalise through Woodgate. Chelsea then went 3-1 up and our boys stubbed out their fags.

The Bulgarian made it 3-2, before the Hudd scored a beauty to make it 3-3. Stubborn Chelsea made it 4-3 and with just a couple of minutes remaining, were confident of victory. Forget it boys, it’s not your day. Robbie Keane picks up the ball on the left, way outside the area and curls it into the top corner. 4-4 and we almost won it at the death, only to be thwarted by Cudicini.

2. Tottenham 2 Chelsea 1 – 2008 Carling Cup Final

What a day we had at Wembley. Chelsea were out-sung and eventually outplayed, as we came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in extra time.

Some might say that Woodgate’s goal was fortuitous as Cech provided the asset by punching the ball directly onto his head, but it was the least that we deserved. Let’s hope for some of that luck today.

1. Tottenham 2 Chelsea 1 – 2006

This just gets the nod over the cup final victory. Though we’d beaten the Chavs in the Carling Cup back in 2002, they could still boast an unbeaten record against us in the league, going way back to 1990.

Our last win over Chelsea at White Hart Lane, was even further back in 1987. So it was understandable that this tense victory was celebrated so heartily. Anyone who was at the Lane that day would tell you that it was an absolute cracking atmosphere.

After Chelsea took the lead through Makelele, we equalised through Dawson to make it level at half time. We took the lead not long into the second-half, after Robbie Keane sold Boulahrouz so many dummies that you’d have thought he worked for Mothercare, before crossing for Lennon to put us ahead.
