Spurs have long been rumoured to be interested in signing West ham’s Winston Reid who would have been available on a free transfer in the summer, had he not inexplicably decided to sign a new contract with his club.

So with Reid off the menu, who will Tottenham move for? Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches need to be moved on in the summer, while Federico Fazio is currently so error prone that unless he improves, it’s probably best if he serves as a fourth choice centre-back next season. Another player is needed to add pressure on Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier.

Perhaps Lyon’s Samuel Umtiti could fill the gap? The French U21 defender can play as a central defender or left-back and according to reports from France, is interesting Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City, Everton and Southampton.

Tottenham fans will of course remember Umtiti for scoring a spectacular goal at White Hart Lane in the Europa League a couple of seasons ago.

Umtiti has been employed as a flying left-back earlier in his career but has been in superb form in the centre of Lyon’s defence this season. He’s short for a centre-back at 5ft 11″, yet compensates with power and pace. Here’s his highlights reel.

  1. Fazio error-prone? Seems to me that Vertonghen has made more errors than Fazio? Fazio needs speed, as Vertonghen does it. Is it not possible for overpaid footballers to improve their speed for the salary they have? I think it should be……

  2. Eh, this news would shock everyone now. I remember the first soccer game I ever played. I watched it on DVD in my father’s old garage. But recently I dug out that very disc and decided to watch it. But I couldn’t open it on my laptop, so I decided to look it up on the Internet. I realized that I needed to convert video from DVD to mp4 so this program helped me literally in a couple of clicks. There is a 7 day free period, and the watermark in the free version is not too much for me.
