The Express today reports that Spurs are ready to make a move for the Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.
Since Alex Ferguson left the club, Evans has struggled to find the form that once inspired the Manchester United legend to describe him as, “arguably the best defender in the country”.
United have struggled generally to recapture the form that came naturally under Ferguson, but Evans’ decline has been more marked than others in the team. Perhaps the issue is that he no longer has such an experienced defensive partner as Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic to help him through a game.
Tottenham fans will well remember how Ledley King’s presence would elevate the performance of whoever played alongside him. Is Evans only a top player when he plays with one?
There have been plenty of United players who fitted in fine at Old Trafford, only to struggle to retain such standards when they left Old Trafford. The likes of Nicky Butt and John O’Shea won countless trophies in Manchester, only to have less than stellar careers when they left.
With only a year left on his contract, perhaps Evans is worth a gamble for Spurs and could hardly be worse than many of the centre-backs who the club want to ship out this summer. Would you be happy for the Northern Ireland international to make the move to White Hart Lane?
Please say this isn’t so
Whats wrong with Johny Evans he’s better the Fazio
If we have him and Wimmer Id be cool with that
Sounds very much like Utd friendly press trying to tempt Spurs’ interest in Evans, who then becomes part of Utd offer for Lloris. I wouldn’t touch him … So many players leave Utd and never amount to anything. Spurs don’t want Utd deadwood. Anderson was rumoured around Berbatove bid time, then Nani & so on.. Levy won’t bite at any of this ..
NO NO NO!!!!!!
Is Evans the man to sort out Tottenham’s defence? in a word no
But why take a press made up rumour seriously? Come on if you want to improve your defence who in their right mind would look to Evans
As a N. Ireland supporter and Spurs fan from 1960 i have seen great defenders with both N,Ireland and Spurs and can say without fear or contradiction Evans is a bad defender at most he might be better off in the 1st division which would suit him .
