The Brazilian international Alexandre Pato has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.

Pato has scored 113 goals in 293 games for Internacional, AC Milan, Corinthians and Sao Paulo. Still only 25, could the forward resurrect his European career at Spurs? Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news.

  1. Lightning quick and very influencal player only if he is fit and away from night spots.Get him injury free and for £7 mil you could do a lot worse . Don’t expect any pressing or tracking back though. He is a typical Brazilian striker let’s the midfield do the hard work but scores goals.

  2. For God’s sake get Chicharito. We need a goal poacher, someone who actually moves off the ball and gets into space and scores goals. None of the dimwits we have at present seem to be able to do this

  3. Pato is different. He is a footballer with proper moves and vision better than the most this is a powerful guy make no mistake…keep him fit and he will destroy defences

    • We have 6 wingers at the club now (Son, Chadli, Lamela, N’Jie, Townsend and Pritchard), don’t think Yarmalenko is now a target at all. Strikers is what is needed – Pato will do As 2nd choice, Berahino is good but well overpriced for a back up option. Surely 15m for Charlie Austin, who is a proper target man is worth a punt – again he will only be playing second fiddle to Kane

  4. Put it this way…….Which is better value….
Pato for £7m or Conor Wickham for £9m? And how about Pato and Austin for same price as Berahino?

  5. One of the Tweeters said he’d prefer Pato, a guy who couldn’t even make it in the Italian league, over 2 players who have proven they can produce in the PL; Fail. We definitely don’t wan’t to be buying any big gambles for a while after what we spent the Bale money on. I’d put my money on Hernandez and, as back up striker, wouldn’t mind Austin either.

  6. Pato sounds Brazilian and exotic, and how football supporters have kidded ourselves in the process. If injuries and attraction to crumpet and the night-life have been a problem, then keep well clear of this kind of signing from overseas. Signing someone like Charlie Austin would make more sense and as things stand he’d play quite a bit too, all the more would he play if Spurs are going to be playing 4-4-2 formation.

  7. Would go Austin and then a young striker in the 8-10 million bracket. Having Austin gives us a true target man CF, which I’m not convinced Kane is. His natural instinct is to turn and run with the ball at defences and is nit so strong with back to goal. He has the vision and work rate to play as a true number 10, behind the striker. Gives option of playing Eriksen out wide where he is better suited. He seems to go very quiet in crowded areas of the pitch. Berahino is not the answer.

  8. Need a change in tactical approach!
Just one up is an easy task for opposing defences to deal with , allowing a springboard for counterattack.
Implementing 2-3 attacking forwards means they will be more restricted in counters as covering threats mounted. You can only win games by scoring goals, and restricting that equates to either drawing or losing . Poch mustchange his game plan sooner rather than later . Coys!

  9. Pato é um grande jogador, vai fazer a diferença no spurs, vai vir pra ser titular absoluto, olha os gols dele nos ultimos meses, é incrivel como esta jogando. E gastara menos perto de Berahino e Austin.

    • Pato is a great player , will make a difference in spurs , will come to be absolute owner , look at the goals of it in recent months , it is amazing how this playing. And spent less near Berahino and Austin.

  13. We need to pick up Berahino, I think there are certainly other options that would do, but Berahino is the man. Nobody in there right mind can expect that at his age he is the finished article yet he has all the attributes of a top quality player that we know works well with Kane and we know can score goals in the premiership. Not really a risk then and a bit of a no brainer. I appreciate that he is expensive but what do you expect WBA to do; give him away?
He will get his money back and more in a few years if he was moved on for any reason anyway so just flaming well do it.
