15. “Ideas are very funny things. They never work unless you do.”
14. “Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.”
13. “Everything in our favour was against us.”
12. Spurs Director: “The trouble with you is that you think you know all the answers.”
Blanchflower: “Ah, God love you, you don’t even know the questions.”
11. “If we don’t know what we’re going to do, how can the other side?”
10. “We aim to equalise before the other team score. We should get our retaliation in first.”
9. Interviewer: “Well Danny, what is the secret to the Spurs winning every match so far this season?”
Danny: “Most probably because in each match we have scored more goals than our opponents.”
8. “He is a self-made man who worships his creator.”
7. “Football is a simple game made complicated by people who should know better.”
6. Duchess of Kent (at 1961 FA Cup Final): “Why do the other team have their names on their tracksuits and yours’ don’t?”
Blanchflower: “Ah well, ma’am, you see we all know each other.”

1. “The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.”
Fortunately, I am old enough to have watched the double side and hence seen the Great Danny
Blanchflower. He was the architect behind the style of how we played. Everything, started with him picking up the ball from just outside the penalty area and passing balls normally along the ground to his team mates.
It’s very interesting to see that our present team also adopt a similar style of approach as the old
‘double side’. If our present team could improve on just one thing they should look at how Danny
Blanchflower had such a large variation of creating goals from set play. One newspaper called it
1000 and one different ways to take them. Let’s face it we don’t do too well on our corners etc.
Agreed, Our corners & free kicks are consistently poor. No invention whatsoever. Do we practise them ?
HHIS I should have thghuot of that!
Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. However think of if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this blog could undeniably be one of the greatest in its niche. Amazing blog!
Hi Sage,Thanks so much for the steamcleaner info, and for your empathy, too. Our tiny home is about 800 square feet, and the kitchen is about 50 square feet. I try to keep appliances to a minimum, and I long for a pantry.
I dunno, Buffyverse vampires are usually spoken of in terms of possession. See, e.g., , which uses that term throughout. In Season 1, Episode 2 Giles describes them as “a human form possessed, infected by the demon’s soul.”
“The game is about glory”….some grand weird stuff…love it Danny
Although it’s not referenced here the legendary Danny Blanchflower was specifically refering to ARSEnil when he said in he’s quote ‘not waiting for the other lot to die of boredom’.
C’mon you Spurs!!!
A true legend in every sense of the word!
COYS!!
During the Double Season my father, whose loyalty had always been to some outfit in the Finsbury Park area, began to lean towards Spurs, taking great pleasure in Danny interviewing Kenneth Wolstenholme on Saturday evenings. Wolstenholme kept on about his belief that Burnley would win the Cup, but when we beat them in the semifinal my father relished Danny,s kindly putdown of the question about our chance of pulling off the Double.
Well what was the put down then Ken? Don’t leave us in suspense like that.
Woah!
Your sharing is great. I will visit your blog more often.
The greatest Spurs team of all time. Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves, Cliff Jones etc. Are there any footage available from those days?
Please publish more of blanchflowrs articles from the Sunday Express in ’60s & 70’s
The passion he wrote woth, transmitted energy which stays with me to this today.
It was a helluva typewriter he used to commit his many thoughts to paper.
