Reports from Africa claim that Spurs were interested in signing the Nigerian international left-back Kingsley Madu in January.

The 20-year old plays for the Slokian club AS Trencin who are said to have wanted £2m for the player.

Tottenham scout Ian Broomfield is said to have given the go-ahead to a bid having watched Madu, but it’s claimed that Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell pulled out of a deal over differences over the fee and fears that the youngster would fail to gain a work permit. Madu has only won one cap for Nigeria, so this would seem to be a legitimate worry.

It’s certainly encouraging that the club are actively seeking out young talent across the globe, especially considering that left-back is a position where the squad already has two quality players. Watch Madu in action below.
